30pm This position is located at the Hickory CBOC only but supervised by Asheville Management Team The Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), Surgery Specialist works under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) to provide services that promote Whole Health, the prevention, remediation, and rehabilitation of acute and chronic physical dysfunction(s). The incumbent will provide cross coverage of clinical and administrative function and other duties as assigned per direction of Supervisor. The incumbent is the PTA specialist responsible for the implementation of Whole Health System of care for patients receiving care in Primary Care, Hickory Community Based Outpatient Clinic (HCBOC). The incumbent independently runs programs in assigned specialty area and serves as consultant for other PTAs, clinicians, nursing, and other healthcare professionals within assigned specialty area. The Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant works in a variety of clinical settings throughout this teaching facility. Although diagnoses vary from clinic to clinic, the Assistant is expected to carry out a full range of prescribed treatment with a substantial degree of independence. The incumbent is experienced with expertise in a variety of areas and is well founded in anatomy, physiology and the theoretical principles of physical therapy. The incumbent performs established tests and measurement procedures at the direction of the PT and reports findings for use by the staff therapist in designing treatment plans considering limiting factors, such as:
age, mental status, energy expenditure, range of motion and cognitive skills. The incumbent documents progress toward goal attainment according to approved formats and communicates directly with other providers in assigned program specialty area, nursing staff, physicians, and family members. The assistant may also recommend orthotic or prosthetics for a given patient, subject to approval by the staff therapist. The incumbent is expected to observe and document the patient's reaction to treatment and changes in physical and/or mental status. The incumbent attends Whole Health in-service training and participates in total quality management initiatives and quality assurance data collection as required by the Physical Therapist Supervisor. The incumbent also prepares and submits recurring and special statistical reports as required and prepares requests for supplies, equipment and repairs for signature by the appropriate service official. This position is responsible for the delivery of Whole Health Coaching and skill development of the local Medical Center's Whole Health System of Care including provision of care through coaching and promotion and education regarding Whole Health Coaching to Veterans and staff. The position is integral to supporting Whole Health Coaches and Veterans in navigating the Whole Health Journey, specifically through the Pathway, wellbeing, and Whole Health clinical care elements of the Whole Health System, as well as assisting in the collection of whole health qualitative data from Veterans and creation of reports analyzing effectiveness of health coaching. The incumbent provides care to Veterans seeking self-directed, lasting changes aligned with their values. They provide interventions that promote health and wellness and enhance well-being, improve health-related outcomes, reduce likelihood of inpatient admission, and improve quality of life. In the course of their work, Health Coaches display unconditional positive regard for their Veterans and a belief in their capacity for change, and honor that each client is an expert on his or her life while ensuring that all interactions are respectful and non-judgmental. Health Coaches work with Veterans on identifying the Veterans' motivation for change, determining goals for their work together, developing treatment plans to reach these goals, implementing those treatment plans, and assessing progress in order to adjust plans as necessary. Health Coaches provide information on the relationship between lifestyle and health outcomes, exploring behaviors that increase the risk of developing or worsening chronic disease and those that reduce the likelihood of chronic illness. Health Coaches collaborate with Veterans and Veterans' primary care and specialty care treatment providers to develop goals designed to improve health outcomes, reduce risk from chronic illness, and lessen the likelihood of admission to ED, inpatient care, or long-term care. The PTA Specialist position works with individuals and groups throughout the facility in a client-centered process to facilitate and empower the client to develop and achieve self-determined goals related to health and wellness. Successful completion of an associate's degree from an accredited community college, junior college, college, or university in a physical therapy assistant education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Preferred
Experience:
3 years of experience directly related to performing the duties of the position is preferred. At this grade level one must be able to demonstrate the following:
Advanced knowledge of treatment techniques in order to assess changes in physical, mental, and/or medical status. Advanced knowledge of physical therapy data collection and assessment techniques in order to perform specified aspects of patient evaluations and interventions. Skill to manage and/or maintain responsibility for a specialty program. Ability to lead a group of employees and communicate information regarding work assignments and scheduling. Ability to instruct students and manage a trainee program for PTA students. Grade Determinations:
